The largest book fair in the world, which will take place between 18 and 22 October, will bring together publishers, agents, scouts, authors and industry professionals. Beletrina, which has been present at the fair with its books and authors since its very start in 1996, will be among the Slovenian publishers participating at the fair. We will again share a stand with the Croatian publishing house Fraktura, Hall 4. 1, D49, just across from the Slovenian national stand.
The fair will host 70 Slovenian authors, whose translations in German came out in the last three years. Eleven of them were originally published by Beletrina: Drago Jančar, Ana Marwan, Aleš Šteger, Gabriela Babnik, Goran Vojnović, Ana Schnabl, Mojca Kumerdej, Suzana Tratnik, Dušan Šarotar, Samira Kentrić and Jela Krečič.
"Beletrina is very experienced in bringing Slovenian literature into other languages. We are pioneers in the belief that Slovenian literature has a great potential abroad. We believe that, with the right support, authors can be successful in reaching a much wider audience than just the Slovenian one. I am also pleased that after so many years, this important opportunity – for us as a nation – to be present at the fair as the Guest of Honour is finally taking place," said Aleš Šteger, Beletrina's programme director, who will appear at several events during the fair as an author.
As part of the Slovenia – Guest of Honour programme there will be numerous talks, readings and exhibitions that will centre not just around new releases, but also address various crucial current issues in the book world: from LGBTIQA+ literature, artificial intelligence, to the challenges of translations, self-publishing, etc. Beletrina's authors will appear at more than 35 appearances in total. The programme will also feature our European poetry platform Versopolis, which now connects 380 poets from 47 countries.
